NME: But it’ll be a few years yet before the Depeche Mode machine starts up again?

Dave: “Martin and I have talked. We actually saw each other recently, and it was really nice. We spent some time in Italy where [photographer and visual collaborator] Anton Cobijn and his wife were renewing their wedding vows in a really nice spot just outside of Rome. We had a really nice time without any work or show pressure. I actually did ask Martin if he’d been writing and he was like, ‘Nah!’ That’s normal – especially when you’ve worked intensely for a couple of years. It takes a while. Wait and see. I wouldn’t rule out as getting together at some point, but it’s not on the cards at this point.”


Chiaramente è troppo presto per materiale nuovo ma la buona notizia è che Martin e Dave si sentono regolarmente. Doveva morire Andy per far tornare il sereno?

Attualmente a me interesserebbe sapere se quei famosi inediti (life 2.0 o simili) non inseriti in Memento verranno mai messi in giro....per quanto riguarda Martin e la sua proverbiale stitichezza compositiva non possiamo certo stupirci....a me più che altro risulta difficile credere che un miliardario pacificato con figli bellissimi/e come Gore abbia ancora qualche urgenza esistenziale da trasformare in musica, ma vedremo. Dave forse ha ancora quella bruciante voglia di dire e dimostrare qualcosa ma ecco gli manca la penna. L'altra sera riascoltavo Memento e su Speak to me ho pensato che quello fosse il Dave autore più maestoso mai apparso nei DM, ma basta una Don't say you love me di un Martino claudicante e in cerca di ispirazioni perdute a ricordarmi who's wearing the trousers.

Bene che si vedano ma meglio che lavorino duro (per noi).
